There were various name tags issued to the SADF for step outs and differed in units and time and PF/NS. On some the letters were coloured and these aligned to the service, army, airforce , medical corps, etc.
The ones we got as NS in mid 80s were plastic and engraved name, which caused name to show through, like this example.

These were worn with step outs and also with jersey when wearing with step outs or browns with tuppers.
